As a tradesman first "Class1" watchmaker I was in charge of "TIME"
Posted to REME Governor's Cottage Camp on the Eastern Face of the Rock.
but stationed at REME Headquarters, Monkey's Cave.
Situated in such a position that we had a magnificent view of the Straights of Gibraltar.
Glorious sun rises and sun sets and of course the view to the North African coastline. In the time that I was in Gibraltar, it enabled me to travel around in my off duty time.
We could go across the border into La Linea de la Concepcion, round the bay of Algeceiras to Algeceiras. From there we could go by ferry to Tanger or Ceuta ,which is the Spanish enclave in North Africa, a tax free zone.
I travelled to Tetuan, Meknes, Rabat, Fez.
In Spain managed to get to Estepona, Marbella, Malaga and up to Granada in the Sierra Nevada.
A visit to Seville at "Feria" time was also spectacular. Many other places like Cordoba and Madrid were also visited, MY TIME of leisure was utilised to see as much as TIME would allow.
